New Singapore Standard – SS 600:2008
As it is well known Singapore is the world leader in bunker sales volume, having moved a record 34.9 million metric tonnes (mt) in 2008, up 10.8% from 2007 GMT feels it is most important to bring attention to the new bunkering code for Singapore.
As from 1 July 2009 a new code of practice will be enforced for all bunkering in Singapore, It is referred to as Singapore Standard SS 600:2008
All bunker suppliers, bunker craft operators and bunker surveyors will be required to comply with the requirements of SS 600, which will replace the existing two standards – SS CP 60:2004 (Bunkering by Bunker Tankers) and SS CP 77:1999 (Bunker Surveying).
GMT is pleased to advise that the new code lays out guidelines and procedures to ensure that the correct quality and quantity of bunkers are being delivered safely and efficiently and it should also enhance consistency in the delivery of bunkers to ships.
To further prepare our clients for this future change GMT will prepare a summary note for all clients to clearly explain the differences, changes and most importantly what a client will need to be doing to ensure full compliance as well as being able to take advantage of these new standards.
GMT are able to assist clients with BQS and Pre Bunker Analysis(PBA)/Pretesting in the port of Singapore, our surveyors are all trained and working to current procedure CP60 & CP77 and will be trained and ready for the implementation of CP600.
