New Fuel Testing Company Launched
A team of three managers with extensive experience in the marine fuels testing business has set up a new company, Guardian Marine Testing Ltd (GMT).

GMT sees a need for more fuel testing services.
The newly formed privately owned company, which has its head office and fully automated laboratory in the United Kingdom, says it is principally involved in the testing of marine fuel and the reporting of the test results with appropriate recommendations.
Andrew Shaw, Sales and Marketing Manager of GMT, said: "The recent sharp increase in fuel prices have placed fuel quality and quantity at the forefront of all ship owners/operators concerns, leading to increased demand for fuel testing".
This trend has also been noted by other fuel testing providers. Another factor expected to boost demand is the need to monitor fuel sulphur content due to regulations under MARPOL Annex VI and the EU Sulphur Directive.
Shaw told Bunkerworld today that the company was already seeing good demand at a time when established players were stretched to capacity.
Andy McEwen, Technical Manager, at GMT, and Operations Manager, Paul Livingston explained: "Our laboratory takes advantage of state of the art automated technology combined with the most up to date web based reporting systems.
"The new business has been set up very consciously to expand on all the positive aspects which exist in the fuel testing industry and, 'raise the bar' to a higher level of personal service," they added.
GMT says it offers "fully integrated fuel testing supported by many complimentary services", and has guarantees on turnaround time for analysis of fuel samples.
Shaw explained to Bunkerworld that apart from guaranteeing test results within 24 hours of the sample arriving at its UK laboratory, the company also manages collection and transit of the sample to its laboratory by liaising with local ship agents.
He said knowing where and when the bunker delivery was taking place and arranging the sample collection in advance "gives us a head start" to ensure fast transfer of the sample to its laboratory.
Apart from fuel analysis and advise services provided from GMT's own laboratory, the company also offers related services.
Shaw told Bunkerworld an "all-encompassing service" could be provided due to strategic links with reputable inspection companies around the world, such as SGS.
One example is a "pre-bunker analysis" service, which involves taking representative samples from the barge tanks and testing them in a local laboratory before the barge delivers fuel to the vessel.
GMT can also arrange for bunker quantity surveyors to oversee deliveries "in all major bunker hubs and most other ports around the world," another service that has taken on greater importance with the ever increasing price of marine fuels.
